  • Neutral terminals (Neutral link/bar): Distribute the neutral wire to all output circuits. Each single-pole MCB output connects its neutral to this bar to complete the circuit .
  • Earth terminals (Earth link/bar): Connect the incoming earth wire and provide grounding for all circuits and devices, ensuring safety against electrical shocks .

Types of Terminal Blocks

Distribution boxes often use terminal blocks to organize and secure connections:

  • Screw-type terminals: Wires are clamped using screws, providing a strong mechanical and electrical connection .
  • Push-in or spring clamp terminals: Allow quick insertion of solid or stranded wires without screws, saving installation time and ensuring reliable contact .
  • Stud or bolt terminals: Used for high-current connections, where wires are secured with nuts and washers .

Wiring Practices

  • Main supply connection: The incoming phase and neutral wires are connected to the main MCB or main switch. The output of the main MCB feeds the RCCB (if used), and then to individual MCBs .
  • Load connections: Each MCB output connects to the respective load via the phase terminal, while the neutral wire connects to the neutral bar. Earth wires from loads connect to the earth bar .
  • Labeling and organization: Terminals should be clearly labeled for phase, neutral, and earth to prevent wiring errors and facilitate maintenance .

Safety Considerations

  • Ensure tight and secure connections to prevent overheating or arcing.
  • Use appropriate wire sizes according to the current rating of the MCBs and terminal blocks.
  • Maintain proper separation between phase, neutral, and earth terminals to avoid short circuits.
