The Backup Box is a device that enables a residential PV system to switch between grid-tied and off-grid operation, supplying backup power to selected loads through the distribution box.

Function and Role

The Backup Box is used in residential rooftop PV systems to manage the inverter's operation between grid-tied and off-grid modes. When the main grid fails, the inverter switches to off-grid mode, and the Backup Box supplies power to designated off-grid loads. Once the grid recovers, the system automatically returns to grid-tied operation.
