Function and Role

The Backup Box is used in residential rooftop PV systems to manage the inverter's operation between grid-tied and off-grid modes. When the main grid fails, the inverter switches to off-grid mode, and the Backup Box supplies power to designated off-grid loads. Once the grid recovers, the system automatically returns to grid-tied operation. It ensures that critical loads continue to receive electricity during outages while protecting the system from overloads and improper connections (BayWa, Huawei) .

Integration with the Distribution Box

The distribution box (DB box) acts as the central hub for electrical circuits, housing circuit breakers, fuses, and bus bars to safely distribute power to various loads. The Backup Box connects to the DB box to manage which circuits receive backup power during off-grid operation.
