Overview of Industrial Managed Switches

Ring Network Topology

Ethernet Ring Protection Switching (ERPS)

  • Sub-50ms reconvergence: Traffic is rerouted almost instantly when a link fails .
  • Ring ports and Ring Protection Link (RPL): Each switch has dedicated ring ports, and one link is blocked under normal conditions to prevent loops. If a fault occurs, the blocked link becomes active to maintain traffic flow .
  • Single or dual-node management: The ring can be controlled by one or two nodes, with the Owner node managing which port is blocked .
  • Vendor-neutral interoperability: ERPS works across switches from multiple manufacturers, simplifying network management .
