Class B single-mode fibers are widely used in:

  • Telecommunications networks: Long-haul, metro, and submarine cables.
  • Data transmission: High-speed networks including 10 Gbit/s and beyond.
  • WDM systems: Especially B-655 fibers, which suppress four-wave mixing for dense wavelength division multiplexing.
  • Premises and metro networks: B-657 fibers provide bend-insensitive performance for indoor installations ( ).

  • Attenuation: Typically 0.18–0.5 dB/km depending on wavelength and fiber type.
